Ways to Help Homeless Dogs Around the Holidays

Donate Dog Supplies – Dog shelters are always in need of extra supplies for their residents. The items they will often need are listed below.
• Dry Dog Food (unopened)
• Wet Dog Food (unopened)
• Treats
• Toys
• Blankets
• Cleaner
• Paper Towels
• Collars
• Leashes
• Dog Waste Bags
You can always call your local shelter for a list of the items that they need the most. If you and your friends are DIY enthusiasts, you can have a holiday get-together and sew some blankets, dog toys, and dog beds. They can be delivered around the holidays and to make things a bit merrier, you can always dress up “Santa Paws” when making that delivery.

Donate Your Skills or Talents – Many dog shelters depend solely on volunteers to run their operations. If you have any special such as accounting, photography, marketing, or any other valuable skill, try donating that time to a good cause. Even if you lack these career skills, you can always volunteer to be a dog walker, kennel cleaner, or dog socializer.

Start a Fundraiser – If you own a business, the holidays are a great time to set up a donation drive. It can be something as simple as asking for item and monetary donations or you can donate a part of your profits to the dog shelter. Use local news, social media, and your website to promote the fundraiser. It doesn’t hurt to also ask the dog shelter to spread the word.

Give a Monetary Donation – If you are unsure what to donate, monetary donations are almost always accepted at shelters. Monetary donations can be used for whatever the shelter needs. They may need funding for food, training, vet care, shelter repairs, and more. The easiest way to make a monetary donation is to donate on the shelter’s website. If that doesn’t work out, you can always reach out to them to see the easiest way to make the donation.
